EULA vs. Terms of Service: What's the Difference?
A EULA (End User License Agreement) grants a license to use software, while a Terms of Service governs a website or web-based service. Both protect your IP and limit liability, but:
- EULAs are used for downloadable software, desktop apps, and mobile apps.
- Terms of Service are used for websites, SaaS platforms, and online services.
- Many apps need both — a EULA for the app download and a ToS for the account/service.
- App stores (Apple App Store, Google Play) require a EULA for all published apps.
